An unique opportunity to know the environmental and socioeconomic situation in the Brazilian Amazon
In the city of Alta Floresta, northern Mato Grosso-we run "Workshops of Socioeconomic Development and Biodiversity Conservation". These workshops are created especially for primary and secondary school pupils and teachers from all over Brazil and abroad.
Based in the Arc of Deforestation, students and teachers have the unique opportunity to meet and discuss the major socioeconomic and environmental problems of the Amazon.
The workshops are developed to the highest academic standards and address two key points:
I. Ecological aspects of the Amazon rainforest.
Through various activities run in pristine Amazon forest, students are able to understand and admire the complexity and importance of the rainforest. Among these activities, there is the opportunity for students to create and develop a scientific research project, always guided closely by Masters and Doctors in Ecology and Conservation.
II. Socioeconomic dynamics in the Arc of Deforestation.
Through visits and interviews with representatives from different economic activities in Alta Floresta (including craftsmen, loggers, and ranchers amongst others), students and teachers come into contact with the real difficulties involved in the development process together with the conservation of the Amazon.
The workshop can be carried out at any time of year and its duration, focus and activities can be tailored according to the age and / or specific needs of the course or institution.
